NATIONAL WOMEN’S REGISTER (NWR) Sudbrooke Group
Let me introduce NWR to Sudbrooke residents. We are a group of active and lively minded ladies who are largely in Sudbrooke although we have some members in the surrounding area. We are part of a national organisation, as the name suggests, so there are many activities at various levels from local groups to conferences run in our area and regionally and nationally.
However the key reason for this piece is to let you know what happens here in our local Sudbrooke Group. Some of the key reasons for our being here is to provide a friendly and welcoming environment for all women who want to get together and discuss non domestic issues. We enjoy discussing a wide range of topics that we choose together and these are used to create a programme. These then form the basis for our discussion evenings and so our programme is planned. This ensures that everyone can have a say about what we will talk about. We meet twice a month at 8.00pm on the second Monday and fourth Thursday in members’ houses and at the end of the evening we have a cup of something and a chat. Our discussion meetings are interspersed with some talks, visits, walks and so on. We have a social side as well which includes a Safari Supper (I wonder what that is!!???), BBQ and Christmas event. The NWR is a very good way of meeting people locally many of whom very quickly turn into friends! We have a Local Organiser who keeps us all on track! This role circulates around the group on a yearly basis so is not too onerous
During lockdown we have had to develop and change to respond to the fact that we cannot meet in our ‘normal’ way so we are all becoming more ‘tech savvy’. Groups are often meeting locally on-line. Nationally we have programmes of talks and quizzes which are made available to all members.
